Filming Diary

Green screen photo-shoot and filming

We had to make a few initial checks prior to the photo-shoot, this would ensure superior photos on completion. The first of which would be the planning of the studio layout, this would include the layout which would allow for optimised lighting as well as giving space for movement of the artist and camera. The second would be the size of the actual green screen as this would give room for any movements of the camera; this allowed for easy of angels and shoots. Unfortunately, due to lack of sufficient lighting it did result in some shadows, we decided to move some extra lighting equipment until the shadows became minimal.

We used a fabric green screen which stopped any reflections of lighting as well as giving a much more vibrant and clearer shade of green; this was a huge benefit when in post production which allowed quick adjustments with the use of the ultra key effect in the Adobe Premier software. On the other hand the fabric green screen didn’t prevent creases, this caused a unprofessional look to the piece; we solved this problem through effect characteristics with the ultra key effect during post production, this allowed us to avoid spending vast amounts of time fixing this problem when filming.

Uploading footage

After uploading the green screen footage, we began to transform the filmed piece. This incorporated adding effects which would completely convert our clips. We started by changing the background colour through the use of ultra key which allow quick alterations with colours. The more lengthy part of post production with the green screen pieces was when eliminating the shadows and creases;  this was altered through different characteristics within the ultra key effect, it allowed us to adjust the shadow, smoothness and others alike.

Music Video

Here is our final music video, the soundtrack we used was I Wish by Cher Lloyd. Throughout the creation of this video we have encountered continuously but we have pulled a hugely successful music video from all of this. As you can see throughout the creation we have found solutions for all problems and have this is show for our incessant hard work. We as a group believe that this final piece is truly following conventions of the pop genre as well as purposely challenging them in order for creativity and uniqueness.

The images presented above was some of the photos that the group had taken earlier in the day, we thought from taking many photos, we would have a great wide selection of choice of what we would use in our ancillary task of producing a digi-pack which would include an album cover. When taking these photos we had noticed that we occurred a few problems which would result in the group reshooting the photos with improvements. The first of which would be the background; this was a huge problem, as we couldn't keep the current background as it would not fit with the pop genre, we would have to cut out around our artist and change the background image. This was prevented by the black strip on the floor which blended in with our artist's shoes. Another problem that occurred was that there was a fault with the camera which made all of our photos dark, even with extra lighting equipment. This meant the only solution to this would to change the photos in black and white; as this would not therefore reflect our genre we decided to reshoot. The solutions to these problems in the reshoot would include, changing the camera as well as testing it before the start of the photo-shoot. The other solution we made was to take the photos in front of a green screen; this would insure that no background colours would compromise the results of our images.

Secondary Audience Research

Secondary Audience Research

Many of the most expensive music videos have been released in the 1990’s where the most expensive music video ever being Michael Jackson featuring Janet Jackson – Scream (1995) which had a production cost of $7,000,000 which in today’s money would have cost them over $10million. The reason for the most expensive music video’s being from the 1990’s is that this was the time where they realised that there was a growing industry in music videos and that famous video channels on tv such as MTV would be playing these and gain a large target audience through this. This meant that they needed to spend great amounts of money on the production of them so that they could catch the eye of the audience and make them not only enjoy the music but the video which could change the audience’s minds about purchasing the song.

A recent expensive music video, being within the last 5 years, would have to be Madonna Featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. – Give Me All Your Luvin (2012) this production cost was $1,500,000. This amount is huge but doesn’t even touch the amount of money which was spent on Scream, this can be put down to the advancements in technology which allows people to buy/rent equipment needed for the shooting of the video as well as cheap but great editing technology which can even allow a novas to edit the clips together. But with the advancements with technology comes the disadvantages which can be the internet, although it allows artists to promote more and put their songs online which is more covenant for the public, it allows the public to download the song for free which will affect the music industry massively. It stops the artist from gaining money which can stop them from making a profit or even the money they have spent on the music video, this would be a problem which can cause the amount of money being spent on music video to decrease and may perhaps not have the same affect on the public as they once did.
